What is a HIP - Reform
Reforming the home buying and selling process
The home buying and selling process is due an overhaul. Home Information Packs, together with reforms to conveyancing, local-authority searches and consumer redress are at the heart of these changes, which will provide consumers with a better deal.
Under the Housing Act 2004, homeowners or their selling agents must be in a position to provide a Home Information Pack to potential buyers at the time of marketing their home for sale. Home Information Packs will create a more efficient and cost-effective market, where costs are shared more fairly between buyers and sellers.
The Home Information Pack Programme is being delivered by Communities and Local Government, working in partnership with industry stakeholders, including the National Association of Estate Agents, the Law Society, the Council of Mortgage Lenders, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Association of Home Information Pack Providers and the Land Registry, to develop and deliver the Programme in time for the 1st August 2007 implementation date.
Each industry sector has a key role to play in delivering Home Information Packs to consumers.
